NZ has $10b of $6 trillion global low carbon market 15 Jun 2010 The global market in low carbon and environmental goods and services is already worth NZ$6 trillion per year and is growing rapidly.
According to a June newsletter from the British High Commission in New Zealand, the market is larger than the global aerospace or defence industries.
At present, New Zealand only takes about NZ$10 billion and is 57th in the world behind Nigeria, Kazakhstan and Morocco (the UK accounts for approx. NZ$225 billion in 6th place). "This shows clearly the strong economic imperative for moving to low carbon and environmentally friendly business practice. Those businesses that move quickly stand to gain a share of a sizeable, increasing market; those that wait will be left behind," the High Commission says. [source: Innovas, 2010].
